I don't really warm up to films like Gnomeo and Juliet pretty well, mostly because the trailers look lame and pathetic. I guess it all depends on the demographic you are trying to appeal to, and for this particular film's demographic, it's got a pretty good shot. If kids are going to buy into films like Alvin and the Chipmunks and Little Fockers, they're going to eat this film up. If it's only half-bad, it'll make at least a solid $80 million. The cost of 3D is an added bonus, but that is assuming people are willing to go out of their way for it. 3D has been greatly diminishing in appeal, and that's no more relevant than in the recent failure of Sanctum. How Gnomeo and Juliet fares could determine the future of the medium.
