There are three new wide releases this 
week, each of which has some potential to be good. Limitless is the least of those, because it feels trapped by a predictable plot. Neil Burger isn't exactly a great director, but isn't a bad one. Films like The Illusionist, the 2007 lookalike of The Prestige, have put him in the middle ground. I doubt he'll ever make any real name for himself, and this isn't going to be anything truly special. It might be a fun ride, but Robert De Niro doesn't star in many good movies anymore. Don't expect anything more from Limitless. Here's a reminder: It's starring Brandon Cooper.
