PotterWatch (11 of 77): The Actor's Circuit: Emma Watson

Of all of the Harry Potter stars, none has improved more obviously than Emma Watson. Lets just think about where she was at at the beginning of the series. She was just as inexperienced as the rest of them, and had a somewhat irritating role on her hands. It's not easy to like a know-it-all like Hermione, and that was very well translated in the first movie. As the films went on, we got an explanation for why Hermione is the way she is, and during the more emotional scenes such as when she reveals that she is a muggle-born in Chamber of Secrets, Emma Watson starts to really shine as a young actress.

The actress got several more chances to shine in the following films, particularly Prisoner of Azkaban, in which both she and Daniel Radcliffe carry the final stretch of the film. In Order of the Phoenix her role was unnecessarily downsized to the ensemble, along with many other bad changes made to the fifth film. In Half-Blood Prince, she gave one of the best performances of the film as her unexpected romance for Ron starts to bloom. It's the unreciprocated crush that many high school teenagers can relate to, and Watson really pulls out the melancholy nature of the plot string to make it meaningful to the film.

Aside from the Potter films, Watson has appeared in other movies on the side, such as Ballet Shoes on BBC One, and the animated film, The Tale of Desperaux. She has also been modeling for Burberry as the face of their new campaign. Other than that, she has pretty much set acting aside in order to focus on her education at Brown University in New York. She has reprised her famous role in the final installment of her founding franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
