We've had to deal with some disappointing films for the past few weeks, but this week we got two films that are just plain awful. Lets start with Twilight: Eclipse, which took in around $68 million on the first day, however 30 million of that came from midnight showings. So the actual results from the rest of the day were around $38 million, which doesn't bode well for the film's prospects through the rest of the weekend. I'd say that the film should probably make about $80 million this weekend, adding to a total of around $170 million across its 5-day weekend.
As for The Last Airbender, the film brought in a strong opening of 16.3 million, but negative word of mouth should bring its 4-day total to around $38 million. I hope that this film fails, so that 10-20 years down the road, somebody else can remake the film, and this time make it something worth our time. As for holdovers, expect Grown Ups to bring in about $20 million, and Toy Story 3 to pull out $34 million from this weekend. If my word counts for anything, which it doesn't, skip Twilight, skip Airbender, skips Grown Ups, and go to see Toy Story 3 for the third or fourth time.
