Box Office Report: Kids love 'Despicable'; Adults hunting 'Predators'

So much for the hopes that this would be just another unextraordinary weekend at the box-office. The new releases left a decent impression on the market, while old releases decently held their own. Despicable Me took first place with an astonishing $60 million opening weekend. I think it's safe to say that Universal probably has a recurring childrens series on their hands. The other release, Predators, took in $25 million from the weekend, playing to the adult crowd who've been left alone for most of the summer.

Among holdovers, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse fell 48% and took in $33 million in it's second weekend, leading to a total gross of 237 million. The Last Airbender fell even more to 17 million, making its total a decent $100 million. Toy Story 3 fell the least, taking in $22 million on weekend number 4, adding to its total of 340 million, making it Pixar's highest grossing film to date. However, most of these films is likely to take a hit next weekend when Inception invades the theatres. This weekend was up from the same weekend last year when Bruno released at number 1, before taking a tumble in the box office.
