Two weeks in a row, we have a teaser for The Social Network being featured here. After the first one largely lacked in substance, this new one is very stylistic, not featuring any scenes from the film, but rather taking on the form of a Facebook chat. It starts out as something merely clever, but then, as the speed of the conversation picks up, starts to get rather chaotic in the best way. This is starting to look like something amazing and new from David Fincher, and I'm really looking forward to seeing it this October. If the style of the trailer didn't sell me, that last quote from the trailer sure did.
Then, on the lower half of the spectrum, Vampires Suck. There isn't much to complain about that statement, which seems like a great title for a spoof on the Twilight franchise. This movie could've been such an open well for easily smart jabs at the series, but we got something less than that. Instead, we got the usual pathetic comedy that the people behind the Scary Movie franchise are known for. They don't need to reference other pop culture abominations to make this film hillarious, but the fact that they do is pretty much a death stroke for the project. It looks like we may have a new bid for worst film of the year.
Finally, Jack Goes Boating. This film marks Phillip Seymour Hoffman's directorial debut, and is the sort of dramatic film with some comedy elements that you'd expect from the actor. There are a few things I love about this trailer, the first of which is Amy Ryan. She is stunning in anything she does, and she's got enough wit to pull this off. Hoffman pulls off some artistry behind the camera, while being lovable as the male lead. On top of that, whoever those unknown actors are, I like them. This may be a great film, and I'm willing to go out on a limb to see it because of that.
