It really was only a matter of time before Pixar released straight-to-DVD spin-offs of some of their films, but as with their decision for the first non-Toy Story sequel, Pixar has gone with the wrong film. Pixar is apparently in development of Planes, a spinoff of Cars. I am deeply concerned, but partially intrigued for one reason. With the movie Cars, we knew it would be about racecars, and lets face it, nobody wants to watch racecars, animated or otherwise. However, if you bring planes into the picture, things get a little more interesting.
What do planes deal with? Dangerous weather conditions. Corn field crashes. War! That last one is probably the best direction to go in for this picture. Pixar hasn't really dealt with war yet, and we've been waiting patiently. Is it too mature for a childrens movie to deal with? Was WALL-E or Toy Story 3? Who can say, just as long as Pixar delivers it in the best way, which I hope ther will. If not, we get another decent but not great Pixar movie, which I guess is better than what Dreamworks keeps putting out regularly.
