Of all the film released in the first half of 2010, the one that I still most want to see is Winter's Bone. This film has been on the Oscar radar since its festival premiere. Reviews are outstanding for this picture, so I'm obviously intrigued. The most Oscar buzz has emanated from lead star Jennifer Lawrence, and so the big picture of this article reveals itself. I haven't seen her performance yet, but if it's as awesome as people are claiming it is, I'm happy that she'll be playing Mystique in X-Men: First Class.
It's not hard to look attractive as a naked blue woman (please reference Neytiri in Avatar), but some people have trouble making you care about a naked blue person (once again, please reference Avatar). The thing I love most about the franchise, or at least the first to films of it, is how it deals on such a personal level for all of these characters. You understand the motivations behind all these characters, including the villains. I'm sure the new men at the helm of the project will keep to that, and perhaps give Jennifer Lawrence more to chew on than they gave Ellen Page when she played Shadowcat in The Last Stand.
