For Your Anticipation: A Psychological Distance

There has to come a point when the people who make the big decisions in filmmaking ask themselves if they're willing to work with Mel Gibson again. There's no denying of the man's acting qualities, and they are numerous and embellished. There's just the awkward situation of not wanting to work with a man who said and meant the things he has. The Beaver might indeed be his last film, but I don't think it will be. There are signs of a brilliant performance here, and that might overshadow all the shortcomings I'm sensing with this film. This film also displays performances from Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence, two of my favorite up and comers. If they can hold their own behind Gibson, this should be well worth my time.

Theatrical Trailer: The Beaver

Mel Gibson has had a rather depressing road throughout the years, and that probably has something to do with the fact that he's an ass. So when the trailer for his next, and possibly last film, The Beaver, came out, I had to check it out. Oddly enough, this may be the sort of film that revives his reputation, because you can't help but draw parallels between his character in the film and his character in real life. It's a little creepy because of the beaver, but it's kind of endearing. I think I'll probably check out this film, despite my better judgment against the actor, and the fact that it could be just plain creepy.

The Mel Gibson-"Hangover 2" Debacle

Mel Gibson has had his hands in his fair share of debacles, and they've definitely made him a tough sell as an actor for most films. What we didn't see coming was him being denied a role in a film as ballsy as The Hangover 2. The controversial figure was close to busting out a deal to cameo as a tattoo artist in the upcoming sequel. Unfortunately for him, Todd Philips had to turn him down due to issues that members of the cast and crew had with his casting. I guess that despite his character, Zach Galifianakis has some pretty sturdy and honest morals. Though he hasn't exactly announced that he was the one with problems, but it's inferred through this statement he said in an interview:

"I'm in a deep protest right now with a movie I'm working on, up in arms about something, but I can't get the guys to [listen] ... I'm not making any leeway."

Who would have though that Galifianakis would be the one to say no? He certainly just went up a few notches in my books. Though I was worried at first that they wouldn't find a fitting replacement for Gibson, it appears that Liam Neeson is now set to fill the role. Philips certainly has my stamp of approval.
