Pixar seems to have gotten into a bit of a rut, going around in circles with its least successful franchise, Cars. Now we have some minor news, and some unsettling news as well. The minor point is that due to the final Twilight film moving into Monsters Inc. 2's original spot of November 16, 2012, the film has moved two weeks earlier to a November 2 release date. The more significant and unfortunate news is that Pixar has cancelled the production of Newt, an original film they were working on.
I find this to be really sad as, now that the studio only has three films on its slate, only one of them is from an original idea (Brave). As much as I've loved the sequels that Pixar has put out, they've been greatly known for their startlingly original films such as WALL-E and Up. I hope that once they've got enough things sorted out with their other films they'll get back to what they do best, but I just can't be sure. There still has been no word on the plot of Monsters Inc. 2, and right now, there isn't much to suggest Cars 2 will be anything extraordinary.
