"Seven Psychopaths" trailer goes crazy on Hollywood

I doubt there's another film out this fall that has my attention quite like "Seven Psychopaths" does. Coming from the writer/director of what more and more seems like my favorite film of 2008, "In Bruges", Martin McDonagh is not far off from making a name for himself as a comedic writer with heavily emotional direction. Joining Colin Farrell this time is a much more American cast of more indie-drawn standouts including Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Walken, Abbie Cornish, Tom Waits, and Zeljko Ivanek.

The plot of a group of dog-nappers turned onto a murderous gangster is a rather hysterical one, and it's already seeming likely for a writer's commentary on American cinema's obsession with fluffy animals to ensue. If not for the fantastic cast, I am waiting to see how McDonagh shifts our expectations in a more daring and emotionally satisfying way as he did so shockingly (delightfully) with "In Bruges". I do hope "Seven Psychopaths" delivers where too many full-blown comedies this year have fallen heavily short. Take a look at the trailer after the jump!

"Total Recall" Trailer

I have reasons to be excited this summer, and this most certainly isn't one of them. Never mind the fact that "Total Recall" isn't a film one would necessarily want to update, but it's a film that exists fine as it was. I'm not going to call for parades exalting it as pure cinematic greatness, but the original "Total Recall" is in the pantheon of hilarious Schwarzenegger science fiction. Remove the Schwarzenegger and it just doesn't seem quite so appealing. Nothing against Colin Farrell, as I love the guy regardless, but this isn't meant to be a serious movie, and I only place coins against it for also starring Bryan Cranston. The guy's amazing, but him appearing in cinema is kind of a bad omen at this point. I can't remember a film he's appeared in this past year that I liked. I don't expect I'll float much attention that film's way, but you tell me if I'm wrong.

For Your Anticipation: You Don't See It

I'll admit some caution and appreciation regarding "Fright Night", because it seems like a scratch above the average vampire film. That being said, I don't imagine it being much more than trying to capitalize on the latest phenomenon that's on its way out the door already. They have enough interesting casting decisions to put on the side of intrigue, like Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, and Toni Collette. I'm actually somewhat tempted to check it out, but there are plenty of warning signs at something a bit stale.

For Your Anticipation: Doing All the Extra Work

Can somebody explain to me how Kevin Spacey ended up working on a film like Horrible Bosses? I understand Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, and even Colin Farrell, but you can tell that Spacey is the main antagonist. Apparently Tom Cruise, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Jeff Bridges were all considered for the role, and while I feel like Cruise may have been a better fit, I'm glad they chose Spacey. I understand that none of this weighs on the quality of the film, but I really couldn't care that much. I suppose it could've been a lot worse, but it's still just lower tier fare.
