"Man of Steel" Teaser Trailer(s)

Accompanying "The Dark Knight Rises" this weekend was not merely one, but two teaser trailers for Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel". Which one you saw largely depends on what theater you went to, but it's more or less a crap shoot. The two trailers have the contrasting fatherly inspirations of Kevin Costner's Johnathan Kent and Russell Crowe's Jor-El, both speaking for choice and destiny in a rather interesting way. Given the imagery of Clark/Cal-El wandering almost aimlessly, could we be in for a Superman not landlocked to the protection of a city. Is this a series truly about a man serving as an inspiration for mankind to strive for? I am unusually optimistic concerning this film, plan on evading any further trailers, but remaining ever cautious as the film slowly approaches. We know what comes of inflated expectations.

TOP 10 SHOTS from "The Insider"

My apologies for not being so quick on the draw for this week's post, since it does take a considerable amount of time to go through a moderately lengthed film twice. Heading up on one whose length is particularly substantial is understandably quite an ordeal to take up, particularly since it wasn't the film I had planned on taking on this week. Originally I believed that I would be taking apart "Serenity", Joss Whedon's feature directorial debut, in accordance with this week's release of "Cabin in the Woods". I decided instead to go for something a little more appropriate for what's been going on in the world this week.

Michael Mann's 1999 thriller "The Insider" obviously doesn't pair up with any of this week's releases, unless there's some "Three Stooges" cameo I don't know about. It does however match up with Sunday's news of the death of journalist Mike Wallace, whose character was portrayed by Christopher Plummer in Michael Mann's flick. Quite obviously, I never planned to focus specifically on Wallace's character, however brilliantly portrayed he may be. As a matter of fact, he's most deeply signified in just one shot of my list. I knew, as always, I had to be a great deal more than just a focus device on faces.

For Your Anticipation O.K. Boy

We are now in the full swings of Harry Potter week once again, and I'd absolutely love to just get to those clips. However, there is another film coming out this weekend that is bound fare much worse. I was initially looking forward to seeing The Next Three Days, but one of the core aspects of such a thriller is pace, and it looks like this one is keeping it slow. By now, you know what you're going to be checking out this weekend, and it probably isn't this. So take a look, and let me know exactly how much you are anticipating this film.

"Next Three Days" Poster

We've had plenty of posters already for Russell Crowe's upcoming action film, The Next Three Days, yet this one is especially nice and textured in my opinion. The film definitely has its work cut out for it. Its prospects aren't too positive as it is opening on the same weekend as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, but if it were being released on any other weekend, this would quite easily be the film to see. Here's hoping the film manages an honest enough following to survive.
